New firmwares

New firmwares

Postby octessence » Tue Mar 30, 2010 9:23 am

I am unhappy with the current state of the BadEIP firmware and the problems in them never seem to get fixed so I have produced my own based on 1.3.168. I will upload another one based on the latest Beta release (1.5.19) soon. I am just trying to determine whether a problem I am seeing comes from the original fw or from the extensions. I am sure it's the former but want to be sure.

The firmwares are based on the BadEIP version but include the following changes:

+ Later version of busybox built with telnetd
+ Telnetd is started from the firmware so it is now possible to have shell access without the hdd/usb component. I find this useful for debugging.
+ The port 81 updater now works properly and uses a 'tar' based update.
+ Some minor problems with the html fixed.
+ broken #FIRMWARE_RELEASE# tag replaced with actual version.
+ stopped httpd starting twice.

The script and all of the components for producing this firmware are in my opentvixdev svn repository in the 'firmware' subdirectory. I will continue making these releases when new versions appear. Please don't ask me about 'unlocked' versions because I have no idea how this is done.

You can find the release here:

Please report any problems.

EDIT: Changed link to mediafire. Didn't know about the file size limit.

Great initiative! Looking forward for some more "momentum" in the firmware modifications.

Thanks. I accidentally deleted everything from my HDD while creating this so it came at a price :)
